Rumney Folk Club's 5th Birthday...

After a break of 5 months, BC returned to Rumney Folk Club and joined in their 5th birthday celebrations on Friday 20th May.  It was a full house with about 60 people in attendance, and the usual wide range of music.  We particularly liked Rob Lear and it was also good to see some young folk having a go.  Freya, who did a great a capella version of Kate Rusby's Lullabies, had a lovely voice and could be one to watch in future.  We did Mallt-y-Nos and Newfoundland and it felt good to be back playing again after concentrating on recording for the last few months.

Once again, Elaine, Derek, Lesley and all the folks made us very welcome - thanks guys! 

If you haven't been to RFC yet, you really should give it a try.  Check out the club's shiney new blue website for details of upcoming events, directions, etc.  The next club meet and open-mic night is Friday 17 June.  See you there?...

New song on MySpace...

At Newport Folk Club this week we sang "Newfoundland" for the first time in public.  We thought we'd let you know that there is now a pre-production version of this available on MySpace, if you fancy a listen. 

It's an old sea-song set to some new music - enjoy!

BC play at Newport Folk Club...

After a good stretch of time being confined to the studio, we were eager to get out and play live again.  We heard about the Newport Folk Club and so we google-stalked it  - it sounded good, especially the constitution (!), so we went over last Thursday (5th May).  And what a lovely evening we had! 

The venue, Newport Fugitives Athletic Club, is easy to find just off junction 27 of the M4, and is a really good place for a folk club - cosy, warm, big car park, well stocked bar and a very tight acoustic quality to the room.  The people running the club, and the regular punters, were really welcoming - this is particularly nice when you walk in "off the street" as first time visitors. 

We played five songs in total, two of which were new - Mallt-y-Nos (only played once before live - at Rumney Folk Club) and The Banks of Newfoundland. 

It was great to hear others play too: Lawrence, Jan & Ian, Greg, Trevor, Cris and others (sorry, can't remember everyone's names!).  The standard was very good indeed!  We'd like to thank everyone involved for having us - for the warm welcome and the encouragement - and we look forward to visiting again soon.

BC hit the studio...

After a couple of years of getting our act together, enjoying ourselves and playing at various places, the fun has now really begun: we've started recording!  We're two days into the project and hope to have the debut album hot off the press around Easter time - all being well.

We've enlisted the services of Lawson Dando at Albany Studios and things are really starting to come together.  We've all but completed The Quay, All Is Well, Mallt-y-Nos and The Feeling Thief; so that's roughly four down and four to go. 

That said, the creative juices have been flowing in the meantime too and we reckon there may be a couple more songs to add to the list before we're done.  The latest completed work is a Welsh ballad - The Devil and the Cobbler - which may not even get played in public before we record it!
